For the third consecutive year, the City of Monopoli has been awarded the Blue Flag, the recognition issued by the Foundation for Environmental Education. The announcement was made this morning during a press conference held in Rome.

Monopoli is one of two cities, along with Polignano a Mare, to receive the Blue Flag in the province of Bari. A total of 22 banners have been awarded to Puglia.

The 2023 award is the ninth Blue Flag received by the Municipality of Monopoli since the recognition was established (2001, 2002, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2021, 2022 and 2023).

The Blue Flag is awarded every year to seaside locations that represent excellence in terms of water quality for swimming, cleanliness of beaches, quality of services, safety measures for bathers, adequate information signs on the ecosystem and the methods of enjoying the beach, and environmental education initiatives.
