In July and August 2023 the City of Monopoli recorded a percentage increase in arrivals and stays of over 32% compared to the same period in 2022. Moreover, already in the first half of July 2023 the City of Monopoli exceeded the number of arrivals and stays certified by the Observatory of the Puglia Promozione Agency in the year 2022 (157,599 arrivals and 503,211 stays). The data emerges from the PayTourist portal, the system for managing and paying the municipal tourist tax.

In particular, during the two summer months there was an increase of 32.17% (arrivals) and 32.22% (overnight stays) compared to the same period in 2022. There were 67,342 arrivals compared to 50,952 last year (+16,390) and 285,167 overnight stays compared to 215,669 in 2022 (+69,498) with an average stay of 4.2 days.

Almost one out of every two tourists is foreign (46.76%) and come mainly from France (8.06%), the United Kingdom (3.63%), Australia (3.28%), the Netherlands (3.06%), Poland (3.03%), Germany (2.9%), the United States of America (2.85%), Belgium (2.49%), Switzerland (2.04%), Canada (1.11%), Hungary (1.07%) and Ireland (1.02%).

14.54% of Italian tourists come from the province of Bari, 10.62% from the metropolitan area of Naples, 7.92% from the metropolitan area of Rome and 5.4% from the metropolitan area of Milan.

More than half of the tourists (55.48%) are under the age of 38, with 28.19% arriving in the city alone and 23.46% in groups, while families make up 48.35% of the visitors. Additionally, 32.08% of those who stayed in Monopoli did so with a short-term rental contract. The remaining accommodations include 16.15% in resorts, 12.12% in guesthouses, 10.17% in bed and breakfasts, 9.24% in hotels, 7.92% in vacation homes, 6.49% in campgrounds, 2.81% in agritourism, and the rest in tourist hotels, wellness centres with hotels, and residences.
