Gozzovigliando returns for a new edition that promises to take the public to discover the most authentic roots of the Apulian seafaring tradition. The event, which will be held on 6, 13, 20 and 27 October 2024 in the ancient port of Monopoli, represents a unique opportunity to experience the fascinating atmosphere of the world of “gozzi”, the typical local boats that have been plying the local waters for centuries.
Gozzovigliando represents a perfect synthesis of culture, tradition and innovation and is now a fixed appointment in the calendar of events in Monopoli not only for residents, but also for visitors who want to discover the true soul of Puglia through the sea.
During the days of Gozzovigliando, the public will have the opportunity to participate in a series of experiences and activities designed to celebrate the indissoluble bond between the community and the sea.
The inaugural day will be characterized by sailing performances, while on Sunday 13 October standup paddleboarding (SUP) will be organized by the Circolo Surfing Monopoli.
Among the most anticipated initiatives are the gozzo excursions, which can be booked on site, during which the traditional fishing boats will be the protagonists of fascinating excursions along the coast, where expert local sailors will guide visitors through a unique historical and landscape route (appointments in the morning and afternoon for the first two Sundays and only in the afternoon on the other two); motor sailing excursions organized by the Naval League (6 October and 13 October reserved for disabled people); free excursions with motor boats organized by Terradamare (all day on Sunday 27 October); catamaran excursions (in the afternoon of the opening day); and boat tours with people with disabilities (starting from the second Sunday).
“Fishing with Dad” is back again this year (6 and 13 October) a morning during which children accompanied by their father, try their hand at fishing. Every Sunday, there is the hobby market.
Appointments in the morning of 6 October and in the afternoon of 13 and 27 October for the disabled with fishing tourism to experience traditional fishing on fishermen’s boats.
All scheduled activities can be booked exclusively on site. Free excursions on the gozzo boats can be booked at the stand located on the Margherita Pier in the ancient port from 9.45am until sold out (for excursions from 10am to 1pm) and from 3.15pm until seats are exhausted for excursions from 3.30pm to 6.30pm
Sunday 20 October is the day dedicated to the Palio of rowing boats by the ProMonopoli Rowing Club. Finally, the historical re-enactment of the ancient fish auction.
This year’s edition also places a strong emphasis on the theme of sustainability. At a time when respect for the environment is crucial, Gozzovigliando will promote a series of initiatives aimed at protecting the marine ecosystem, with awareness-raising activities for young and old. In this context every Wednesday, from 9 October at 12 noon there will be an appointment with Educamare (first appointment at Cala Batteria, then at the Rendella Library on 16 and 23 October, and finally on 30 October at the Lega Navale).
Every Friday in October at 12 noon, literary catamaran excursions are scheduled for students.
